If you're wondering what to pack for university this year, then here's all the essentials you're likely to forget.

If you’re preparing to start uni this year, the chances are you already have a good idea of what you’ll need for your new room in halls. You’ll be responsible for feeding yourself too, so be sure to consider what you’ll need for the kitchen. Here are some essentials that could make a difference in first year:

Toastie maker

Everyone loves a toastie, and you can normally pick one of these up for less than £10. As well as toasties, they can make quesadillas, paninis, and much more.

Other advantages include less spending on Deliveroo and less washing up. These things can really do it all!

Wok

The bigger the wok the better. As well as stir-fries, you can use it to make a bumper fry up on a Sunday morning to fight off the hangover for you and your housemates.

A big pan also means you get to cook in bulk. What’s not to love?

Multiple sets of plates and cups

You cannot imagine how breakable these kitchen essentials are until you live in a flat with five or more strangers. Bring a few sets of everything to be safe, as they’re very likely to get broken. With more utensils and glassware, you can also put off the washing up for that little bit longer. Not to mention you’ll be able to host drinks at yours!

Speaker

Every great uni kitchen has at least one speaker. Whether you’re jamming to your favourite playlist while cooking a flat dinner, playing music for pre-drinks with friends, or connecting it to your laptop for a flat movie night, the situations in which a speaker comes in handy are endless.

As the kitchen is usually the main social space in uni halls, a speaker makes it a fun space to vibe out and enjoy yourselves.

Ice cube tray

Last but not least, we have the humble ice cube tray. As well as being a staple kitchen utensil for anyone who likes a cold drink from time-to-time, these bad boys also double up as a mould for jelly shots. Need we say more?

These are five of our student kitchen must-haves. Do you have any of these in your halls? Join our panel today and let us know; you’ll get a free £10 Amazon voucher when you sign up.
