Catching up with our very own Market Research Society's Young Researcher of the Year

We are thrilled to announce that our very own Director of Research Kas Nicholls, has been named as the Young Researcher of the Year in the prestigious 2019 Market Research Society (MRS) Awards.

Having studied Mathematics at the University of Reading and currently learning R (we know, clever stuff…), Kas is a fantastic presenter, regularly hosting webinars and presenting at events such as Measurefest and ThinkStudent.

Following four promotions in four years, Kas has developed Student Hut’s research capabilities to include brand analysis, portfolio redesign and student analysis and is now a Director of the business. She leads on the National Clearing Survey (NCS) and has helped to secure global research projects including ones helping to shape government policy internationally, most recently in the Atlantic Canada region and for Study in Sweden.

“The award is for up-and-coming researchers who have shown creativity, impact and inventiveness in their work, so it’s absolutely amazing to have won this award. In my role at Student Hut, I try to find the best insights for our clients through high quality, innovative research, and the MRS sets the gold standard in this area for best practice, advice and training so to be even considered for this recognition is a real honour.”

The judges of the Young Researcher of the Year award said:

“This is always one of the toughest categories to judge – choosing a winner from a shortlist of incredible rising stars in the research sector. The entrepreneurship that Katherine has demonstrated to build an insight team around her makes her an extremely worthy winner.”

Following a esteemed awards ceremony at Old Billingsgate, London, Steve Evans, CEO of Student Hut, said:

“This award is a testament to Kas and her hard work, skill and innovation. Kas is business-minded, brilliant with a research brief and a brilliant team player. She has created and promoted the research function to secure leadership for Student Hut in the student insight space."

We’re so proud to have the Market Research Society recognise Kas’ brilliance, and we can’t wait to see what she gets up to in 2020.

So what’s next for Kas?

“I’m really excited to grow our Student Hut Opinion Panel, managing a panel of 80,000+ active and engaged students improving clients’ insights on topics that range from mental health to university choices.”
