For those among us that are considering a career in teaching, you’ve come to the right place.

There are countless benefits of becoming a teacher, but here are five that can act as motivators and nudges that you’re heading in the right direction. And to those who have never considered teaching, maybe we can convince you. Read on, it’s a pretty enticing deal…

Inspire others' stories

First things first, you’ll play a major hand in inspiring the next generation. The satisfaction you’ll get from your day job is not something many other roles can or will offer. Besides parents and other primary caregivers, teachers have arguably one of the biggest influences on a child's life. You have the opportunity to teach them how to view the world, encourage them to create change and educate them on how to be a good human.

You’ll be passing on the things you already love

And it’s not all about the satisfaction you’ll get from when your students learn from you, you’ll be constantly learning too. University is one of the few times you get to delve into a subject you love, but for many of us, once we graduate we rarely use this expertise.

In teaching, it will be the foundation of everything that you do. You can really make use of your subject knowledge on a daily basis – and even continue learning about it yourself. Students, as you’ll know, are inquisitive too, often asking questions you'd never thought of.

A true vocation… with its perks

Much like doctors, firefighters, artists or vets, teaching is more than just a job. It's a true vocation and whilst many people work to live, you’ll be doing it because you are passionate about it. And it’s not all graft...

Don’t get us wrong, ask any teacher and they will agree the job requires hard work. But with the nature of the job, come holidays like no other profession. 13 weeks of paid time off every year. While you will probably need to catch up on some work during the holidays, it’s also the perfect time to travel, learn, or simply relax.

A clear career path

If you have the desire to progress in your career, teaching has a very clear path to do so. From heads of department to headteachers, there are opportunities to go as high as you'd want to.

And good teachers are always in demand too, so teaching can provide you with job security too. And while retirement may seem a long way off, the Teachers’ Pension Scheme is the envy of many other sectors.

Salary benefits

As a newly qualified teacher (NQT) you start on at least £23,720 (£29,664 in inner London). Good promotion prospects mean you can rise quickly through the ranks to earn almost £40,000 on the higher end of the pay range. And with schools now having more freedom to develop their own pay policies, your pay will link to your performance instead of your length of service. If you end up running as a headteacher you can expect a salary of up to £110,000 or more!

If any of these sound like a bit of you, check out how to get into teaching now.
