Five reasons to switch to Android

Knowing where to start in the search for a new phone is difficult. Here are just some reasons you should think about choosing an Android.

Price

Within the vast choice of Android phones available, there is something for every price point. While an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy might cost the same, the Samsung phone of the same cost has considerably better specs. The Galaxy comes with twice the RAM and a screen with double the refresh rate. All of this while still managing to be lighter than the iPhone.

And there’s so much more on offer with Android. OnePlus, Motorola and Google all have robust, affordable options. Even Samsung has many models, designed for different budgets.

Choice

The sheer variety of different brands gives you loads to choose from. Each manufacturer is known for excelling in different areas, so base your choice on what you need to use your phone for. There’s even plenty of choice within each company.

You could buy two Android phones with completely different specifications and still be able to transfer work between them smoothly. Choose the brand that suits your current needs, and when it’s time to upgrade, choose another.

Customisation

One of the key selling points of Android phones is how customisable the interface is. You can change the layout of your home screen and group apps in folders. It can be further adapted to suit your needs with widgets. For example, you could have your calendar show a detailed view of your schedule.

It doesn’t stop there. With some time spent getting to know Android systems, it’s easy to replace unwanted default software. This includes things like web browsers and your notes app.

Different manufacturers may use different interfaces. As good as the default Google layout is, you can change your “skin” to your liking. It’s usually easy enough to pick colours and layouts to help your phone feel truly yours.

Universal

Two features are particularly universal and easy to use across platforms: Google cloud-based apps and USB-C. This is in contrast with Apple’s apps, which are mostly exclusive to their products. And yes, the Google apps do work on Apple products, although they work better with Androids and can be even used as widgets.

Android devices could be considered part of a wider technological movement towards a universal single port. Their round USB-C ports are great for fast charging, connecting to devices, and transferring data.

Innovation

Speaking of charging, Android phones were the first to get wireless charging. It’s common to see new features appear on Android phones, given the array of companies competing to advance. NFC, 4G, 5G, and OLED screens are a handful of examples of the features that arrived on Android phones first.
