Leeds is the UK’s third-largest city, meaning you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do.. It was tough, but we’ve picked our top five favourite things to do in student-friendly Leeds.

Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen

Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen is an independent venue with three floors. It’s a popular haunt with Leeds students and locals alike. Belgrave put on weekly events, including live music and comedy nights. Expect a chilled vibe, comfy sofas, craft beers, and soft drinks.

There’s also a spectacular rooftop terrace with a DJ booth and a huge neon sign which makes the perfect backdrop for Instagram photos.

Feeling hungry? Belgrave has two in-house independent food vendors: Patty Smith’s Burger Co and Dough Boys, both of which are vegan-friendly. Dough Boys sells hand-stretched pizza by the slice. Head down early to grab your half-price slice!

This hip venue holds an event called the Belgrave Feast on the second Saturday of every month. They welcome different food vendors and art traders every month. Visit their website to check out the line-up for next month.

The Royal Armouries is home to the UK’s national collection of arms and armour. Highlights include the world’s only suit of elephant armour as well as the ‘pulse rifle’ from the classic 1986 film Aliens.

They also have a special outdoor area for battle reenactments, with live demonstrations, so you can see some of the historic weapons and armour in use.

Corn Exchange

Leeds is full of independent cafes, restaurants, and shops. Head down to the Corn Exchange in the city centre to find some of them all under one roof.

The Corn Exchange is home to several independent vintage clothing stores and vinyl record shops, including Released Records and Alt Box.

If you fancy something to eat, then be sure to check out OWT. OWT source all the ingredients for their dishes from Leeds Kirkgate Market, which isn’t far from the Corn Exchange. Their dishes are simple but delicious, and inspired by French cuisine. They change their menu every month, so you can try something new every time you visit.
