This Victorian resort city has a wide range of things to do. From nightlife to quirky shops and cafes, there’s something for everyone.

Known for its bohemian atmosphere and as an LGBTQ+ hotspot, Brighton has been a popular seaside resort since the 1800s. Much of Brighton looks like a cultural scrapbook, with varied architecture, including a royal palace with Indian inspiration.

Palace Pier

Built in 1899, this pier houses food stalls, bars, arcades, and rides. The choice of food here is amazing, just watch out for the seagulls. It’s particularly exciting watching doughnuts being freshly made at the doughnut kiosks. You can buy wristbands that grant unlimited access to the rides on the pier via the pier’s website.

The pier is also a natural roosting spot for thousands of starlings. These beautiful birds fly in amazing cloud-like formations and can be seen at sunset between November and March. Grab a drink, maybe some fish and chips, and watch their stunning display.

Gay nightlife

In general, Brighton's nightlife is varied and caters to different tastes. But there are loads of great LGBTQ+ nightclubs and bars. Many of these bars clubs can be found in Brighton’s ‘gay quarter’, Kemptown. Club Revenge, Legends, The Marlborough, and Affinity Bar are a few strong examples. You’ll find friendly atmospheres, drag nights, and there’s always somewhere doing karaoke.

The Lanes

This is the popular name for the Old Town of Brighton. You’ll see why as you wander through the winding, narrow streets. Filled with independent boutiques, jewellers, and great places to eat, there’s plenty to explore. This is exactly the kind of place you’ll find the hidden gems of Brighton. Have Google maps at the ready, as the Lanes can feel like a maze.

North Laine

Popular for many of the same reasons as the Lanes, this residential district is especially good for vegetarians and vegans looking for somewhere to eat. There are lots of veggie cafes and restaurants. You’ll also find Komedia here, which has live comedy, music, and a cinema with comfy seating. Make sure you visit Kensington Gardens, a small street with quirky shops, including the renowned flea market, Snoopers Paradise.

History trail

Taking you through both popular tourist attractions and hidden alleyways, the history trail covers some of the areas previously mentioned here. You’ll get to know the history of Brighton and even some of its depictions in pop culture. Being a self-guided tour, you can take it on at your own pace.
