Father's Day is coming, (it's Sunday 17th June if you'd forgotten), however, unfortunately, it's that time of year again when your student loan is just a distant memory...

Feeling sick at the thought of having to shed out more cash for Father’s Day? No fear, for here are some cheap and easy gift ideas that any dad is sure to love.

Socks.

Granted this isn’t the most exciting of all the gift ideas out there, but it is almost scientifically proven that the only way a dad gets socks is through the art of gift giving.

Plus there are some brilliant novelty socks out there – the bolder the better I always say.

Create your own experience day

For those dads out there that enjoy activities and doing things, this is a brilliant idea.

No need to worry about splashing out the cash on finding an experience day for £65+, create your own.

Now this could be done by taking him out for a city day in London, or for a good old fashioned walk and a pub lunch in the country. Either way, spending quality time with each other is key here and would make the perfect gift.

Dad’s Hamper

This is as simple as it sounds. You create your own personalised hamper of goodies for your dad.

Simply start off by buying a super cheap hamper (either online or from a little charity shop), and start filling it with your dad’s favourite things.

From personal experience, I find a selection of beer, their favourite snacks, maybe a cheap new top and a card works very well!

Get Crafty

Whilst we’re on this D.I.Y. streak, why not try your hand at something crafty?

You could create a ‘coupon book’, where it offers a variety of different tokens allocated to different tasks. Such as offering to cook dinner, or to pick them up after a night out.

Another crafty thing you could do that would cost you next to nothing is to look through some old pictures and create a collage or scrapbook. It’s sweet, simple and holds lots of memories. What’s not to love?

Pocket Cocktail Bar

What’s this? A cocktail bar? For your pocket?

Oh yes. This is a fun idea for any of the dads who may enjoy a tipple every now and again.

All you have to do is buy a selection of the mini bottles of spirits, each approximately £2-3 - available in supermarkets, and to wrap them up with their chosen mixer, and voila! If you really want to splash out you could find a quirky tumbler to drink them in as well.

Before you even know it you’ve created a really cool, fun present without breaking the bank.

A Hug

If all of these suggestions are still making your purse cringe and your wallet cry, then there is always the fall back option – a hug.

Who doesn’t love a good hug? Especially one filled with love and a smile explaining that a student loan doesn’t perhaps stretch as far as we all thought.

Student budgets can be restricting when it comes to getting presents, but do not let that stop you from giving your pops the best Father’s Day gift ever. Just be creative and work with what you have! (Even if that is just a hug…)
