Stay warm in your cold student house without turning on the heating or blowing your student budget. Buy these before term starts, or ask for them for Christmas, to make a massive difference.

If you’ve lived in a student house over the winter, you’ll know that it’s difficult to keep warm. With a student budget and pesky single-glazed windows, you’re unlikely to find student digs that will keep you warm enough even throughout spring, let alone winter. Here’s what you’ll need to pack to keep your fingers from freezing while you write your essays.

Fleece-lined blanket

This is an absolute life-saver when you want to work in the kitchen, the living room or the bedroom. If you’d rather wear your blanket, then get yourself a wearable blanket

All-season duvet

If you can’t decide between a 13.5 and a 10.5 tog duvet, then this is the one for you. It’s a duvet made of two different duvets, so you can mix and match the level of warmth as the seasons change.

Slippers

Go Granny-style with your outfit and crack out the slippers. Make sure to double up with fluffy socks too for extra style points.

Layers

It’s all about thermals. Need we say more?

Hot water bottle

These are a God-send for students as all they require is a little hot water. Say goodbye to expensive water and gas bills.

Hot drinks

If there was ever a good excuse for a hot choccie, then it’s winter. You can buy this in any supermarket, but we recommend a boujee one like this Galaxy hot chocolate. Treat yourself.

Make the most of your living room

Gather all of your housemates and move to the living room for a group study session. Not only will you be warmer, but you’ll probably be more productive if you’re working alongside your flatmates.

Close the doors

If there’s a room in your house that you’re not using, then close the door. This will trap the heat in a smaller space and make it warmer where you need it.
