If you're not a gym lover, or even if you are, you're going to want to try these awesome fitness classes out!

We all know it’s tough to get fit at university when you aren’t a big fan of the gym. Some of us find the gym deadly boring, so fitness classes are a great way to bring a bit of fun and variety to your workout! Take a look at our list of alternative, and seriously awesome, fitness classes that you might just completely fall in love with!

Pound

This one’s for the rockers among you. Pitched as “the world’s first cardio jam session inspired by the infectious, energizing and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums”, how could you not want to get involved?

Source: Pound

What exactly is it?

It’s a class where participants hold a weighted drumstick in each hand and rock out to music in exaggerated movements like those a drummer would make!

Why you should try it...

You can burn up to 900 calories per hour, it helps to strengthen and tone muscles and it improves your rhythm, coordination, agility and endurance. And on top of all of that, you get to rock out to some awesome music!

Bounce

There are a number of Bounce workouts to choose from, all slightly different, but all ultimately about getting fit, toning up and having fun!

What exactly is it?

The classic Bounce class consists of 40 minutes of “choreographed dance-cardio jumping routines” followed by 20 minutes of muscle toning. Oh and if you hadn’t noticed, all of this takes place on a mini trampoline!

Why you should try it...

Attendees have been known to burn up to 700 calories per class, it’s great for toning muscles and there’s no way you’ll leave a session without a big smile on your face!

Pole Fitness

So pole fitness isn’t exactly a new fad, and people take it very, very seriously. But it still made this list because it feels like it’s one of those amazingly beneficial classes that most people wouldn’t instantly think of!

What exactly is it?

If you were thinking pole fitness only involved spinning yourself around a pole and trying to look sultry and sexy, think again! Pole fitness is gymnastics. It’s a serious sport that requires lots of skill and training, and not to mention some serious strength and flexibility!

Why you should try it...

It’s a great way to improve your flexibility and strength and to increase your muscle tone. It’s also a great way to boost your confidence, to make sure you’re always challenging yourself and to have fun while getting fit.

HulaFit

Did you love to hula-hoop when you were younger? Did you completely forget it was a thing until just now? Then Hula-Fit could be the class for you!

Source: Hula-Fit

What exactly is it?

You basically hula-hoop to music! You learn hula-hooping routines and cool tricks, all to a fun, upbeat soundtrack.

Why you should try it...

It’s a great way to burn calories and improve both your strength and coordination. Most importantly, it’s incredibly fun and you will not be able to make it through a class without breaking into a big cheesy grin!

Clubbercise

Would you love a way to inject those exciting night-out vibes into your exercise routine? Clubbercise, with its club classics and neon lights, might be just what you need!

Source: The Fitness Factory

What exactly is it?

Clubbercise is sold as “simple, fun dance fitness routines using glow sticks to club anthems.” That’s pretty much the sum of it, if you add in that you’re in a darkened room with disco lights!

Why you should try it...

Firstly, you can burn around 600 calories per class. But perhaps more importantly, it’s a super fun class that caters for both fitness lovers and those who are a little out of shape, with it’s high and low impact variations of moves! This is a great one if you haven’t exercised in a while and would like to ease yourself back into it gently.

Aerial Yoga

Yes, you read that right. This is Yoga in the air while you hang in an aerial sling. Intrigued? We’re not surprised!

What exactly is it?

It is exactly what it says on the tin. During Aerial/Weightless Yoga classes, you move through traditional Yoga postures while hanging in an aerial swing. It’s supposed to help you get into the deeper stretches in a more relaxed manner by taking your body weight.

Why you should try it...

As with all Yoga, Aerial Yoga is brilliant at increasing your flexibility, muscular strength and mobility. It also helps with mindfulness and allows you time to unwind and destress, which is often a massive bonus if you’re at uni studying for your degree! The most important reason to try Aerial Yoga, in my opinion, is that you and the others taking the class look pretty damn awesome!

Kangoo Jumps

If the name of the special shoes you wear in these workouts isn’t amazing enough, just know that this is another class that gets you bouncing about!

Source: The Pricer

What exactly is it?

Kangoo Jumps are spring boots. When you jump wearing them, you are putting far less pressure and impact on your joints than if you weren’t wearing them. Kangoo Jumps workouts are basically big cardio workouts like traditional classes, but wearing these awesome bouncy boots!

Why you should try it...

If you love an intense cardio workout, but find you have issues with the impact on your joints, or if you just want an exercise class with an interesting twist, Kangoo Jumps classes could be exactly what you’re looking for!

Admittedly, it might be a while before some of these eccentric classes reach your uni gym, but they definitely sound like a lot of fun to try out! And for the extra adventurous among you, we even hear that “Twerkercise” could be making it’s way across the pond very soon!

So there you have it, 7 awesome alternative fitness classes that you absolutely have to try! What do you think? Have you given any of them a try? Have you seen any other amazing fitness classes you think should be on our list?
