As the UK queens made their debut on the main stage last week, it got us at Student Hut HQ to thinking….
Can we learn something from the fierce drag superstars that grace our screens?
So, like what?
1. You better WERK
The sooner you get into good habits about your workload, the better.
Do as the queens do and throw your everything into every challenge (or piece of work you get assigned). You’ll get used to working to a high standard and to deadlines, which is fabulous for real life.
Remember though, Drag Race is on for a set number of weeks. You’re at university for three years. Be careful not to burn out.
2. Bring it to the runway
Ru girls worldwide are known for their confidence.
Brimming with charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent, we can all benefit from being more queen sometimes.
And always be you, even if you’re being accused of looking Party City (that means cheap, for the uninitiated).
3. If you can't love yourself...
Because sometimes, that’s all there is. Not to sound dark, or anything.
But learning to love yourself and to see the positive in situations is a surefire way to get more from life.
Especially at university, where things can get overwhelming at times, let yourself smile and step out of the stress zone. There’s more to life than worrying about essays and exams.
Do things that make you happy.
4. Get ya gurls
Life’s better shared. And these queens are showing us that with every strut.
Contrary to the bitchy, argumentative native of the American Drag Race, the British contestants seem to genuinely like each other. They have a connection which filters through to the judges and to the audience. And we’re here for it.
Grab your besties and huddle. Seriously. Everything's better when you’re not alone.
5. We're all born naked and the rest is drag
The originality in this season is real. There are no cheap knockoff versions of previous queens.
There are no beaten faces shouting ‘yaaaas’ instead of having an actual personality.
Instead, what we have is a real spectrum of drag from genuine people. And that’s what we should all be striving to be. Ourselves.
Can I get an amen?
Let’s all just get along and be happy.
