The fact that a time slot was given to move things into halls was extremely helpful as it meant the corridors weren't overcrowded, similarly accommodation reps were there in identifiable uniforms (purple shirts) to help you to carry things to your room/ to the communal areas which made moving things into the building easy and quick. Freshers events that cost money (nightclub events) were very expensive and the alternative was paying an expensive entry fee on the door but having to wait in a long queue which made the nights out feel miserable. I'd recommend getting a freshers wristband if you plan on going to at least 2 events to get your moneys worth even if you don't feel you'd go to all of the events specified by the wristband, otherwise you'll be paying more on the door every night you go out and have to wait in a queue. Meeting new people is easy in freshers as long as you put yourself out there - once your family leaves after helping you unpack, go out into the communal areas, find people and ask them if they plan on heading to any of the events that day and ask if you can tag along. Prior to freshers week if you find the university's freshers page you'll be able to link up with people in your accommodation before you move in so you can be more comfortable meeting your flat mates in person on move in day.
