Ranmoor/Endcliffe

I lived in Stephenson Hall during my first year! I absolutely loved it! We were catered, so everyone from the building had the opportunity to have dinner together every night! It was the perfect occasion to meet new people and to bond with your flatmates! The food itself was not amazing, actually the same dishes tended to repeat themselves however the money loaded into your genius card could be used all around the university cafes! Amazing during exam season! Also, you could use your genius card at the Edge, pub where you could get brunch, burgers, pizzas and more!!! I was in one of the blocks, which I shared with another 9 girls, the rooms are bigger than other rooms in Endcliffe however the building was quite old. Another thing about being catered is that you do not have a living room nor a proper kitchen, however we always chilled in others rooms or at the Edge! Stephenson is beautiful during summer as it is right in front of a beautiful garden! My flat and I had a few bevs there under the sun! Regarding the social experience I think it is the best accomodation to be in, also the first year living alone can sometimes be tricky so not having to cook all the time was brilliant! We had a little kitchenette where we could have quick meals! Stephenson is slightly more expensive than other accomodations but remember it includes £50 a week in your genius card to spend on food around Uni!

The location is a but further away from the uni so it's about a 20 minute walk to most of the university buildings. It's near a parader of shops that has a Morrison's, Sainsbury's and Costa to name a few. There is a building called the ridge where they hold Zumba, yoga and have a gym as well as study space and table tennis, a pool table and a PS4. I lived in ranmoor so there wasn't much socially apart from activities in the ridge, but endcliffe is a 5 mins walk away and you can go to the edge which has a bar and a cafeteria. My room was decently sized, with an en-suite bathroom but the shower was cold most of the time :(. Not a lot of wardrobe space but there is space under the bed and air of desk space and shelves. Bathroom is a wet room with an inbuilt shower. Flat size varies depending on your building but I shared with 6 others who were quite messy unfortunately but you could be lucky. Overall was a decent experience but if I had todo it again, I'd choose city accommodation just because it's a lot nearer and saves me money on bus. PSA: if you lose you keys or get locked out, security can open it for you at any time of the day/night, just call them.

Cupboards broken, toilets filthy, flooding in kitchen, promised two fridges but only got one, spider infestation

In first year I stayed in Stephenson Hall, catered accommodation, which was an incredible student experience, primarily because of the people I met in it and the good times we had. However, at times this was overshaddowed by the excessive shared damage charges which were shared with the whole corridor, reguardless of whether we even used the other corridor and no one got their deposits back. Another problem with this accommodation is the actual accommodation, it is extremely small and not even shown on university open days it is that disgusting. Shared showers are not for everyone understandably and the canteen food is horribly overpriced to the point where £50 a week can only give you one evening meal a day and a sausage bap. Despite its many flaws, it has its own library and hall and is university renowned as being one of the loudest and most enjoyable halls socially as you are forced to get to know each other, it just depends whether you are in halls for a year of fun or study.

The halls themselves are nice, the rooms are pretty modern and clean. However, this also gave them a kind of clinical feel sometimes and I also had quite a narrow room which was annoying. In terms of social aspect, I met some of my best friends there, however in general the curbar block wasn’t great. Endlciffe itself is a pretty location.

I lived in an older part of Endcliffe that wasn't advertised to prospective students, so when I arrived I was a bit disappointed. We didn't share a door or hall with anyone else, so it wasn't very sociable like the rest of Endcliffe and I only made friends with my flatmates. We had rooms twice the size of those in the rest of Endcliffe, and even though it was shared bathrooms we had sinks in our rooms which was good. The heating was always on so it was warm all the time, and everything generally worked and didn't need replacing. The shower was surpringly good but small, and got infested with silver fish at one point. I had to ask for my mattress to be replaced at the start of the year because it you fell through it it was so soft! It was a bit closer to uni than the rest of Endcliffe which was good. Overall I had a good experience here but it could have been better, however I had the cheapest accommodation possible so what was I to expect!

Halls are of a decent standard and give you a decent amount of room for all your stuff. Well prepared on arrival and mostly all in working order. However rooms can seem a bit stuffy and dark and bathrooms are wet room style making them quite inconvenient to use.

As far as halls go, they're very standard. A decent size, good condition, exactly as you would expect. I have a single ensuite room and it's a very standard room. It's nice and easy to make homely. The vast majority of people I have met live in ranmoor/Endcliffe which is great when you have pres or when you need someone to walk to your lectures with If you don't know where you're going. Loudest nights are Wednesday and Saturday. Having a bar with good food on site is great because it's cheap and a good place to hang out. It is rather expensive though. My house next year will be a few hundred pounds cheaper than my accommodation. City accommodation however is a lot cheaper.

Room size and storage are good, modern and stylish. Location is a bit further out from the city centre, but there are options for city halls. Accommodation services disappointing.

Alright location, walk to uni . Washing machines always full, and don't really work well , student be not open, great to meet flat mates and make good friend

Really far away from the university and city centre - over a mile from the SU. Good social experience and ok room, bad colour scheme.

It’s too far from the uni, too much fire alarms, two bathrooms are little for ten people, the rent is a little expensive for this accommodation.

The accommodation is ok, but it it far away from the university and from the city centre. It is a little bit expensive.

The location is quite a long walk from uni - about 30 minutes, 20 if you run. It has good facilities at The Edge, a bar, cafe, shop, rooms to hire etc. I was in Endcliffe which was very social and I would recommend. Some of the issues with the flat took a while to fix - such as a broken oven and a leaking window.

The actual accommodation is adequate with lots of space however there are scuff marks all over the place and parts of the wall repainted over in a slightly different colour. Living in ranmoor is irritating due to the lack of a bar like Entcliffe has whilst still paying the same amount. There also isn't enough washing machines available for the amount of people living there. The location is about half an hour walk to uni of a £1 bus journey which is fine as a walk tends to wake you up in time for the first lecture. The internet is a bit inconsistent at times but is never horrendous however it is irritating that you cannot use certain devices on the network e.g. an Amazon Firestick. It is okay overall, it's halls and what you would expect.

I lived in Ranmoor village for my first year, and all things considered, it was okay. I shared a flat with 10 others (which is unusual I might add) so there was a lot of kitchen space. The ensuite rooms were a tad on the small side, but the bathrooms were ideal. However, the noise was regularly an issue. Clubbing isn’t just for the weekends, so both the flat and the surrounding areas were often playing loud music most nights. EARPLUGS ARE ESSENTIAL!!!!! Maintainance were crap, but from what I hear from friends across the county, all unis have the same issue. Think of it as a Bear Grylls style survival challenge. 3am fire alarms are a uni halls standard, but Ranmoor also has a 10 second fire alarm test every Wednesday between 10-12. This is okay if you’re already out, but if it’s your morning off, prepare to be scared awake
